Carbon Plaza Mall announced the start of the construction phase of an aggressive improvement project. The Mahoning Township, Carbon County, PA, shopping mall’s plans include the construction of a new fueling station, a new McDonald’s and expansion and improvements to existing parking areas.
Wessner’s Excavating LLC was named the site contractor for the parking improvements. The work awarded includes erosion control, selected demolition, clearing & grubbing, earth excavation, storm drainage and site concrete.
The major challenge of the project is the removal of over 54,000 cubic yards of earth that must be blasted and removed from an adjacent hillside. This earth removal process and the other site improvements must be accomplished during normal business operating hours. Other challenges include scheduling the removal and the replacement of communication and electric power lines without interrupting daily mall operations. Also, these activities must not interfere with the construction of other new on-site building projects.
